"Blocks" Al Forster.
"Blocks" is Al Forster's latest series of watercolor images, a continuation of his very successful "Starting Point" series shown at our gallery last December. With "Blocks," Al continues to explore forms, this time as modular units working together to create these compelling two-dimensional constructions.
Al explains that "Blocks" was actually conceived as a drawing exercise to challenge him to think, organize and design in space before ever putting pencil to paper. He visualized a complete st of 32 blocks of various shapes and sizes that were then used to create, from memory, these artistic images. Al chose toy blocks as the focus of this exercise because of their familiarity, their simplicity of use, their honesty of messsage and their adaptability to a virtually unlimited number of unique configurations.
Current exhibit: Clay + Play. Previous exhibits: Enduring Design. Maynard Hale Lyndon, Harley Jensen & David Leaf, Carol Bogovich, Al Forster "Blocks", Jesse Wood, Keith Wilson, Timothy Richards, Barbara Stauffacher-Solomon, Tina Beebe and Larry Halprin.
