"Clay+Play".
"With a night sky full of ideas and a delicious amount of red earth clay at hand, I follow a winding path of trial and error to land in a place of playful balance," is how artist Nancy Walker responded to our asking her to describe her inventive and playful constructions of clay.
And about her amazing white porcelain bird and fish bowls shown at right, Nancy says, "The pure white of fine porcelain seems to speak to a simplicity and directness of form and statement. What I needed to say isn't distracted by color. I also love playing with those glorious earthy tones of colored Terra sigillata clay slips although I still find a quiet nurturing quality creating with that pure fine porcelain. It's just a different conversation."
Nancy Walker is one fine, remarkable artist; and representing her work is an ongoing treat and honor for our gallery. Her breadth of talents is matched by her engaging personality and inquisitiveness. Finding her work in Vancouver, B.C., one day several years ago, has led to a close friendship and respect for her imagination, energy and productivity.
