LyndonDesign Gallery Previous Exhibit
"Enduring Design".

Founded by Maynard Hale Lyndon and Lu Wendel Lyndon in 1978, Placewares has always strived to offer products which are both handsome and functional. To commemorate the opening of Placewares+LyndonDesign in Gualala in 2005, the couple is celebrating their sixth anniversary here on the coast by putting together an unusual show for their gallery room. This time, to accompany the artwork of the fifteen artists they represent in the gallery, the Lyndons have curated a show which spotlights fifty products from their Placewares shop which they consider well designed and enduring because of the form and functionality of each; thus this focus on the Design of Things Useful.

Some of the items are classics from nearly one hundred years ago; others are fresh new ideas. But Maynard and Lu have chosen these fifty as showcasing a few of their favorites; ones which are both pleasing to the eye and which work well. On display for these weeks of summer 2011is this special exhibition and history/explanation of each item – all of which are available in their shop. Twenty are illustrated on the right side of this page.

As product designers and retailers of good design for over thirty-five years – both were at the famous Design Research company for a number of years – Lu and Maynard are pleased to give some special attention to these pieces of “art” in the Placewares+LyndonDesign Gallery which they hope will illustrate the art of everyday things. Lu and Maynard invite you to come see this special exhibit and talk about form and color and utility. Design – pleasing by being artfully useful.
