Mental Telegrams - Jesse Wood
Jesse Wood paints remarkably inventive and engaging canvases. He's been a favorite in our gallery since we opened in 2005. Jesse paints just about every day, developing images of an amazing range of subjects; and he further tickles the viewer with titles that tease. But it's the quality of his loose paint strokes that pleases the eye. He knows just when to stop, often leaving construction lines in place so they become part of the final piece.
Jesse has said, "I have painted most of my life but it's only in the last 15 years that painting has become a jealous muse, rounding out my reading and traveling. These days my work is less rooted in the things around me and more of an encoded telegram from my mind in its attempt to right the world visually."
For his formal training Jesse journeyed to The School of Fine Arts in Boston and the Savannah College of Art and Design. His work is represented by a handful of fine galleries in The Netherlands, Germany, France and America. We 'found' Jesse in Santa Fe, where he grew up and now lives and paints.
