These once exotic lemon citrus fruit has appeared in art since the time of antiquities with meanings ranging from temporality and eternal life, the dream of far-flung locales, the tree of knowledge, and motherhood. Now a mainstay in the supermarket, we like how the gentle citron-yellow glows in our kitchen!

It is winter now, many trees are bare, but the oranges, tangerines and lemons are all ripe; they burn in this clear atmosphere the lemons with gentle flames, the tangerines with bright flashes, and the oranges sombre.
