    Incredibly Handy Prep Set

A favorite prep counter standard in Placewares' kitchen

So good it's designated by the Japanese Design Collection

Our prep set has a full-time presence on our kitchen prep counter. To be honest, we bought it during a trip to Japan based on its sheer beauty, and upon bringing it home, we naively sat it on the counter as a design object. Luckily, it finally dawned on us, use this thing!

    What we love

    Mortar & Pestle

At almost 4 inches in diameter, the mortar and pestle are a great, fast go-to for a lot of our mortar and pestle jobs: pulverizing herbs, grinding spices, and making a paste. It is a great alternative to hauling out - and cleaning up - our larger, heavy-duty mortar and pestles that are oversized for some quick prep jobs. The pestle is also small, yet mighty, and made of solid maple.

    Citrus Press

Similar to what we like about its mate the mortar and pestle, the citrus press is another great, fast go-to for quick juicing. It is large enough to hold the juice of a few lemons and limes and is also large enough to juice a medium-sized orange. We like the deep-rounded bowl and have noticed we seldom if ever, slosh any juice onto the counter. The citrus press is also handy at the bar.

    Grater

The grater is another quick, hardworking tool. We use ours for grating ginger, radishes, peppers, garlic, cinnamon, and hard cheese neatly and safely. The rounded bowl circumference is easy to scoop out when your grating is done.

    Containers

The containers are handy to access your daily cooking needs for salt and pepper, and we also use them for prep containers to hold prepped items until they're needed.

Our Japanese Kitchen Prep Set - "Sitaku" in Japanese - brings together multiple kitchen tools into a modular, compact design. With the set, you can easily prep a variety of things: juice citrus; grind seeds, spices, or roots like ginger; and finely grate a range of items.
