And, we've been using this handy jar spoon ever since (and, have been known to gift it to many family and friends). The Sleek spoon was designed by Achille Castiglioni and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in 1962 for Kraft Foods. Kraft was launching mayonnaise to the Italian market, a then not common Italian food staple, and it needed a promotional item to help encourage Italians to try Kraft's product. We heard this story first-hand from Castiglioni's daughter Giovanna at her father's foundation in Milan, the Achille Castiglioni Foundation.
Their practical approach to daily necessities is clearly expressed in this jar spoon: it is specially designed for retrieving those last bits at the bottom of a jar of mayonnaise...or jam or mustard and the list goes on.
The original design originally produced in 1962 as a promotional object for Kraft to its new Italian customers was reissued by in 1997.
