Arne Jacobsen designed the original Charlottenborg pieces, which also include a table and chair, in 1936. The distinctive parallel curves in this piece are a signature element of Jacobsen's designs. The Charlottenborg 2-Seater Sofa blends strength and fluidity for a noteworthy addition to any room.
Our Icons collection revitalizes iconic pieces of furniture from some of Europe's most important architects and designers.
As a little boy, Arne Jacobsen dreamed of being a professional painter. His career trajectory took a slight change of course when he enrolled in the Architecture School at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Fortuitous indeed, as Jacobsen is known as the “the greatest Danish architect” ever. In 1925, Jacobsen, still a student, won a silver medal for his first furniture design in the Paris Art Deco Fair. The piece was a seemingly simple rattan chair named “The Paris Chair”. The design still lives on today and is regarded as one of his most iconic pieces. Jacobsen’s style was simple but effective, essential yet distinctive. Even though he strongly despised the word “designer” and never used the word to describe himself, the world remembers him as one of the best there ever was.
